Dogs do all kinds of strange things that owners have to put up with - from rolling in smelly things to digging and chewing shoes. From time to time they might also bring owners things in their mouths, whether it be a toy for them to play with or some other 'gift' they think you might like.
But one dog owner was absolutely gobsmacked when they saw something strange sticking out of their pet's mouth - especially after realising what it actually was. In a video shared on the Rescued Animals US TikTok page, a woman can be seen asking her Weimaraner to "drop" what he has in his mouth. In the corner of the dog's mouth, two tiny feet and a tail can be seen - but it isn't yet clear what it is.
The owner tells the dog, who’s name is Andy, she'll |never let him" into the garden again. However, Andy continues looking sheepish and ignores his owner's plea to drop what he has his mouth.
- 'I found my late dad's diary and his note inside changed my opinion about him'
- 'I found false wall in my 1926 basement and couldn't believe what was behind it'
When she mentions a "treat", suggesting they could "trade", Andy does look up at his owner with big eyes - but still refuses to let go.
So the woman takes Andy outside, and eventually discovers a nest of tiny bunny rabbits - and finally realises what her pooch has in his mouth - a tiny rabbit.
She eventually manages to get the rabbit out from her dog's mouth, and says the animal is "slobbery but totally unharmed". Apologising to the tiny rabbit, she takes it back to the nest, where the animal's mum is hiding with the rest of her babies.
"He crawled back in there, so I think he's OK," she said. After the incident, she decided to put a barrier in her garden, around the nest, so no other animals could harm them.
In the comments section people were baffled, as they'd first thought the dog had a spider in his mouth. "At the start I thought it was a spider," said one person with a crying emoji. "First I saw that [and thought] it was a spider," agreed another.
Others thought the video was adorable, with one person saying: "Adorable! The entire process," and another added: "Thank you for saving the little one."
If your dog has had an animal in their mouth, it's important to speak to a vet just to rule out infection or toxin exposure. You should also monitor their behaviour closely, making sure they aren't acting out of the ordinary, or being sick.
